A grouped guide to heat- and drought-tolerant plants for Dubai gardens and balconies, with a quick-reference table and tips on soil, watering and shade.
Dubailand is a spread of gated villa and townhouse communities inland, where gardens, pools, shade and AC matter more than anything else to owners.

We are called most often for landscaping services, pergola design & installation and swimming pool services here. Every other service on our list is available too.
We design and build villa gardens for Dubailand's inland heat, with irrigation, hardy planting, paving and lighting.
Shade over gardens and roof terraces lets families use outdoor space for more of the year, built within community guidelines.
Private villa pools catch desert dust and need regular cleaning, chemical balance and pump and filter checks.
Many newer villas have rooftop solar water heaters, and we service, repair and replace them as they age.
Ducted and split systems in larger villas work hard inland and need regular coil and filter cleaning to stay efficient.
Owners in the older Arabian Ranches phases often update original kitchens, bathrooms and flooring.
Each has its own page with notes on its buildings and access rules.
Arabian Ranches villas come with gardens, pools and close to two decades of Dubai summers, and we look after all three, from pool pumps to full kitchen refits.
DAMAC Hills wraps villas, townhouses and apartment buildings around a championship golf course, and we maintain and upgrade all three property types here.
Town Square's compact Nshama townhouses and apartments suit young families, and we help them fix, store and shade more within the space they have.
Motor City pairs low-rise Uptown apartments with leafy villa streets, and we handle the AC, plumbing, waterproofing and refurbishment work both now need.
The issues we see most often: desert heat and dust inland; gardens that need planning; using outdoor space in summer; community approvals for any exterior work.
Dubailand is further from the sea and often hotter in summer than coastal districts. Dust from open land nearby settles on AC coils, pool water and outdoor furniture. Outdoor AC units and filters need cleaning more often.
Many villas were handed over with basic planting or bare sand. Owners want lawns, trees, paving and lighting that survive the heat without huge water bills. Good irrigation and the right plant choice are the key.
Without shade, gardens and roof terraces are unusable for much of the year. Pergolas and shade structures are one of the most common upgrades, but each community has rules on size, colour and position.
Changes that affect the outside of a villa, from a new pergola to a pool or extension, normally need a no-objection certificate from the master developer. Processing can take time, so it is worth starting early.
Dubailand is a large inland district off Al Qudra Road, Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Our maintenance services here are mostly for families in villas and townhouses inside gated communities. Each community has its own master developer and management: Emaar for the Arabian Ranches phases, DAMAC for DAMAC Hills, Dubai Properties for communities such as Mudon, Villanova and Remraam, and other developers for newer phases.
Homes here are newer than in central Dubai. The first villas in Arabian Ranches were handed over in the mid-2000s, while many other communities were completed from the mid-2010s onwards. Most villas have a private garden, and many have a pool, a roof terrace or a shaded seating area. Townhouses are smaller but still have a yard that owners want to use all year.
Four Dubailand communities have their own pages. Arabian Ranches is the original desert-style villa community. DAMAC Hills is built around a championship golf course. Town Square mixes townhouses and apartments around a central park. Motor City sits next to the Dubai Autodrome, with apartments and villas.
Every Dubailand community is gated. Contractors usually need a gate pass, which the homeowner or tenant requests through the community app, portal or management office. Interior repairs normally only need the pass, but exterior work, pools, pergolas and extensions require an NOC from the master developer, and often a refundable deposit, before work starts. Permitted work hours apply, and many communities limit noisy work on Fridays or weekends. Trucks and skips may need separate approval. We help prepare drawings and paperwork for NOC applications. Please check the exact rules with your community management.

How to set up and maintain drip irrigation in a Dubai villa garden, from zones and timers to filters, clogged emitters and seasonal changes.
Almost always. Pergolas and other exterior structures normally need approval from the master developer, such as Emaar, DAMAC or Dubai Properties. They will check the size, height, colour and position against community guidelines. We can prepare the drawings for your application. Our article on villa renovation permits explains the process in more detail.
Choose heat-tolerant plants, group them by water need and use drip irrigation on a timer set for early morning or evening. Shade over seating areas and some hardscaping reduce water use. We can redesign the garden and set up irrigation so it stays healthy through the hottest months.
In most cases, yes. Inland Dubai gets strong sun all year, so a working system can cover much of your hot water. Problems usually come from scale, failed valves or damaged panels. We check and repair existing systems. Read more in is a solar water heater worth it in Dubai.
